Not tied to taking your holiday in July or August?
Travelling out of peak season is the perfect way to get the most out of your holiday - avoid packed out restaurants and crowded beaches - and potentially save yourself a small fortune at the same time!
Lower prices - Rates for flights, car hire etc. either side of July and August are nearly always lower than peak periods.
Space on the beach - Beaches can be a lot quieter outside of the core summer months. The sea is still warm in September and temperatures are still high. Just try and avoid the weekends when the locals often head to the coast.
Bearable temperatures - The weather in the Costa del Sol in May is invariably very warm but not hot enough to ruin your holiday and send you home with sunburn.
Less queuing - If you plan on taking the family to one of the several theme or water parks, you will find that queues are a lot shorter outside of the peak summer months. For example, Tivoli World can be packed out in July and August but in April and May you can get on most rides without queuing at all.
Quieter resorts - The advantages of travelling outside peak months aren't just confined to financial ones. Resorts will be quieter, meaning you won't struggle to get a table at a restaurant and bars won't be packed out.
Easier to get around the resort - Roads and car parks will be much quieter in the early or late summer months.
Travelling is easier - Airports can be a busy and stressful place to be in the middle of August. Check-in queues can be unbearably long and passport control can take an eternity to pass through. Early summer or early autumn travel is usually a lot less stressful.
Fewer children - School holidays don't start until July so travel in May or June to enjoy a more peaceful break.
Tip: Remember to avoid the May bank holidays/Easter/half term breaks etc. when most of these benefits may not apply.
