Turn off the main road at Riviera del Sol and go up the hill for 3 kilometres. Designed by Falco Nardi and opened in 1990, Miraflores Golf Club has undergone a transformation and offers a real challenge to all levels of golfing ability. Although short by modern day standards, each one of the 18 holes offers a different challenge. The course follows the natural contours of the valley and is much flatter than first appearance suggests. White tees: 5113 metres. Par 71. Other features include the purpose-built Miraflores driving range and golf academy, located on Calle Esmeralda on the way to the golf club. There are three professionals based at the range. Miraflores Golf Restaurant is renowned for the quality of its food and is open 365 days a year to members and non-members, serving lunch and dinner. The delicious lunch menu is good value, and their gourmet dinner and selection of wines is excellent. Entertainment provided four nights a week.

La Cala Resort Apdo. de Correos 106, 29649 Mijas Costa, Malaga.                                                  Tel: 952 66 90 33 Directions: exit the main road at La Cala de Mijas, pass underneath the motorway and travel some six kilometres into the countryside. Designed by Cabell B. Robinson and opened in 1991, La Cala Resort is the largest golf complex on the Costa del Sol. There are three courses: the Asia (White tees: 5925 metres par 72), the America (White tees: 6187 metres par 73) and the newly-added Europa (White tees: 6014 par 71), which opened in March 2005. The resort contains extensive practice facilities and is the location for the only David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Spain, offering lessons and group classes for both beginners and experienced players. Includes a six-hole par 3 course. The resort features a hotel, driving range & golf academy, squash, tennis, gym, sauna.

Santana Golf Ctra. de Cadiz N340 Km. 199, 29647 Mijas Costa, Malaga.                                         Tel: 902 51 77 00 Situated 10 minutes from Fuengirola and La Cala and 20 minutes from Malaga airport lies Santana Golf and Country Club, which has been formed from an old avocado plantation between two rivers. This spacious and beautiful golf course was designed by Cabell B. Robinson, and it has several water features. Many of the fairways are lined with avocado trees. The course has 4 par 3s, 10 par 4s and 4 par 5s, and golfers will have to use every club in the bag. The longest hole measures 595 metres from the back tees with the river coming into play. The course is flat enough so that a buggy is not necessary. White tees: 6300 metres par 72.

Mijas Golf Club Avda. Camino Viejo de Coin, km 3.5, 29649 Mijas Costa, Malaga.                               Tel: 952 47 68 43 Do not take the road to Mijas Pueblo (village) - exit the main road to take the MA426 to Coin. Travel into the country for 3 kilometres. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Snr and opened in 1976, Mijas Golf has two courses. Los Lagos (The Lakes - white tees: 6367 par 71) has wide user-friendly fairways and very little rough, but several water hazards. Buggies not essential. Los Olivos (The Olive Trees - white tees: 5840 par 70) is a shorter, tighter and more demanding course with larger greens, all to USGA specifications. Other features include a driving range, lockers, storage and a theme bar.

La Siesta Golf Urb. Sitio de Calahonda, C/Jose de Orbaneja 29650, Mijas Costa.                               Tel: 952 93 33 62 Just off the Avda de Espana. Designed by Enrique Busquet, La Siesta was opened in 1990. An ideal course for short play, with fine views to the Mediterranean. Other features include driving range, lessons, sauna.

Designed by Fransisco Navarro, La Noria was opened in 2003. This course offers enjoyable golf set amongst magnificent lakes and a stream. A further 9 holes are being developed.
